My Research Proves FLOW Speak is Effective in Building Fluency and Confidence
As English continues to be the global lingua franca, the ability to communicate fluently in the language has become essential for academic, professional, and personal success. However, for many non-native English speakers, developing true speaking fluency and confidence can be an arduous challenge.
That's where the FLOW Speak mobile application comes in. FLOW Speak is an innovative language learning tool that uses interactive exercises and AI-powered feedback to help users rapidly improve their English speaking skills. The app was recently highlighted in my research as a part of my thesis project.
My research subjects, a group of 445 intermediate-level English learners, used the FLOW Speak app over a 2-month period as part of their language studies. The students were separated into two groups: one control group and one experimental group. The research objective was to test the effectiveness of FLOW Speak in developing speaking fluency as compared to traditional classroom instruction and to assess the students’ satisfaction with learning with this new technology.
Research Phases
The research was conducted in three phases. The first phase was for exploration using a variety of assessments such as the speaking and motivation scale, learning styles index, and a speaking diagnostic test. The second phase the students used FLOW Speak in conjunction with pre and post tests to measure speaking improvement. In the third and final phase, I asked the students to complete a user satisfaction scale assessment.
The results were remarkable - every single participant who used FLOW Speak demonstrated significant improvements in their speaking fluency, vocabulary, and overall confidence by the end of the trial.
During my thesis defence, I explained that I was really impressed by how quickly my research subjects were able to progress with FLOW Speak. The app provides such a seamless and effective way for learners to practice their English speaking in a supportive, judgment-free environment.
The results were remarkable - every single participant who used FLOW Speak demonstrated significant improvements in their speaking fluency, vocabulary, and overall confidence by the end of the trial.
Keys to Success
The key to FLOW Speak 's success lies in its adaptive, personalized approach. The app uses advanced speech recognition technology to analyze the user's pronunciation, grammar, and fluency in real-time. Based on this analysis, FLOW Speak then provides detailed feedback and tailored lessons to address the user's specific areas for improvement.
"I loved how FLOW Speak was able to give me such specific, actionable feedback on my speaking," said one of my research participants. "It really helped me identify my weak points and work on them systematically. And the gamified lessons and challenges made practice feel more fun and engaging than traditional language learning."
Beyond the highly effective learning methodology, FLOW Speak also stands out for its user-friendly interface and accessibility. The app can be downloaded for free on both iOS and Android devices, making it easy for learners to fit English practice into their daily routines. My students, even those in remote areas, all have their own mobile phones, which gives them unlimited opportunities to build their speaking skills. This is important for their future career potential and participation in the growing economy in Algeria and beyond.
Perhaps most impressively, my research subjects reported that using FLOW Speak had a significant impact on their overall confidence and willingness to speak English in real-world situations.
"Before using FLOW Speak, I would always feel really nervous and self-conscious when I had to speak English, even with my friends," shared one participant. "But after consistently practicing with the app, I noticed a huge boost in my confidence. Now I'm much more comfortable starting conversations and expressing myself in English."
For me, seeing my research subjects transform from tentative English learners to confident communicators was incredibly rewarding. It was amazing to witness the progress my participants made with FLOW Speak and it really delivered on its promise to help learners rapidly improve their speaking skills and feel more self-assured when using English.
